Asus’ latest ROG gaming phones are faster, cooler, and louder

With improved cooling systems and speakers that are 50% louder than their predecessors, the ROG Phone 7 and Phone 7 Ultimate feature Qualcomm's most recent flagship processor.

The newest smartphones in Asus' lineup of gaming-oriented smartphones are the ROG Phone 7 and Phone 7 Ultimate. They are now available for preorder in Taiwan and Europe and will start shipping later this month. The price of the Phone 7 in Europe is €999 (£999.99), while the price of the Phone 7 Ultimate is €1,399 (£1,199.99).

With their emphasis on gaming, both devices come with Qualcomm's most recent flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. But, there is also a "upgraded GameCool 7 thermal system" that is intended to maximize performance from this processor by keeping it cool when under stress. According to Asus, the phones' vapor chamber cooling system conducts heat up to 168% more effectively than the ROG Phone 6 did last year.

The Ultimate edition of the phone includes an active cooling fan accessory called the AeroActive Cooler 7 if you want even more cooling. The AeroActive Portal in the handset opens when it is connected, allowing cold air to flow directly over the cooling fins of the vapor chamber. According to Asus, this permits up to a 20% increase in thermal efficiency. The Portal was present on the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate from the previous year, but it doesn't seem to have prevented the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate from receiving an IP54 designation for dust and water protection.

Moreover, the AeroActive Cooler 7 has an integrated subwoofer that, according to Asus, produces 77 percent greater bass output. In addition, the phone's dual front-firing speakers reportedly offer 50% more "effective volume" than the phone from the previous year. Finally, if you'd want to completely omit the built-in speakers, there is a 3.5mm headphone port.

The AeroActive Cooler 7 has four physical buttons for a more conventional controller experience, a kickstand, RGB lighting (obviously), a second USB-C connector, and a 3.5mm headphone socket in addition to improved cooling and sound.

The ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate are rather standard smartphones underneath all of these gaming capabilities. Both phones boast 6.78-inch OLED screens with 165Hz refresh rates and a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. They have three rear cameras including a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 5-megapixel macro camera. Its 6,000mAh batteries can be fast-charged at up to 65W. Like earlier ROG phones like the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate, the Ultimate variant also has a rear-facing display that can be customized.

There is currently no information available regarding pricing or availability for the ROG Phone 7 or Phone 7 Ultimate, which are both anticipated to launch in the US at a later time.
